Fr
Cacho’s Ordination and First Mass
The reception of the chasuble, sign of the priesthood.
It remains folded at the back, until after communion
when the new priests receive the power to hear confession.
The
anointing of hands during the singing of the Veni Creator
There
is a tradition that the purificator (white cloth) holding the hands
of the new priest together after their anointing is used later to
tie the priest’s mother’s hands when, after her death, she lies
in her coffin.
“Receive
the power to offer the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass for the living
and for the dead.”
Then
the hands are purified with lemon and bread….
…and
then the new priest, assisted by another confrere,
concelebrate his very first mass with the ordaining bishop.
Here, Fr. Cacho is assisted by Fr. Couture.
The
happy new priests
along
with the new deacons and all the ministers of the ordination, and
the clergy.
