Deo Gratias
et Virgini Mariae!
Such is the
spontaneous exclamation busting out from the very depth of our hearts
when we think of these last 10 years of graces in the Philippines.
10 years! It is almost nothing in the long history of the Church,
but it will be a lot in the history of the SSPX in Asia.
The fruitful
work done between 1992 and 2002 in these oriental islands is one
of many visible fruits of the courageous act of the consecration
of bishops by Archbishop Lefebvre, in June 1988. Why? The publicity
which surrounded this act in early July of that year reached the
shores of the Philippines and struck the eyes of an attentive layer.
Attorney Teodoro R. Dominguez, reading carefully the accounts relating
to this event, pondering both sides of the issue, saw a flagrant
injustice in the whole affair, took his pen and wrote to Archbishop
Lefebvre, asking for further information. The result was the visit
of Fr. Patrice Laroche in the following August. Then priests of
the Australian District added Manila on their monthly missions for
the next four years until, on August 18, 1992, Fr. Paul Morgan,
accompanied by Fr. Stephen Abraham, both Englishmen, came to stay.
The following
Photo Album wishes to be a token of gratitude firstly to Our Lady
of the Rosary, Empress of the Philippines Islands for the innumerable
favors she has bestowed upon us. It is also a humble means to express
our heartfelt thanks to all the priests (almost 20) who have been
assigned there over the years, and have happily labored in this
portion of the Lord's vineyard. A deep thanks also goes to all the
faithful who have shown not only their profound love of the Holy
Sacrifice of the Mass but also of the Catholic Priesthood, by welcoming
all these priests and often having to bid farewell to so many of
them after a few years by assisting them in the multiple demands
of a tropical apostolate, by simply being there behind their priests
to pray and join in the sacrifices attached to the foundations of
new mission.
I wish to thank
also our readers, friends and benefactors for their spiritual and
material help without which not a tenth could have been achieved.
As one picture has it, "Pray. It works." Indeed. "God
loveth a cheerful giver."
Maraming, maraming
salamat sa inyong lahat!
Fr. Daniel CoutureDistrict Superior.
